Budget Weekend Driver

Keep Stock + ECU Remap

Upgrade Path

Stock 2.0L → ECU Remap → Intake + Headers

Maximum gain for minimum investment. The ECU remap alone gives you noticeably better throttle response and a few extra horses. Add intake and headers for the full NA experience.

Budget

€500–€1,800

Result

170–175hp

Best Value

Serious Enthusiast

2.5L Swap

Upgrade Path

Stock → 2.5L Swap → ECU Cal → (Optional: Stage 2)

The 2.5 swap is the single best value upgrade for the NC. 200hp NA with OEM reliability. The torque transforms the car's character completely. Add Stage 2 cams and headers for 220hp.

Budget

€1,500–€4,500

Result

200–220hp

Track/Power Builder

2.5L Swap + Turbo

Upgrade Path

Stock → 2.5L Swap → Turbo Kit → (Optional: Forged internals)

The ultimate NC build. Start with the 2.5L swap for a solid daily driver (200hp NA), then add a turbo kit for 350-550hp depending on budget. The 2.5L handles 380hp on stock internals — go forged for 400+.

Budget

€6,000–€15,000+

Result

350–550hp

Understanding the MX-5 NC Engine Family

The Mazda MX-5 NC (2005-2015) was offered with two engines from the factory: the 1.8L BP (primarily in European and Japanese markets) and the 2.0L LF-VE (available worldwide). Both belong to Mazda's MZR engine family — a proven, lightweight, naturally-aspirated DOHC design that revs freely and responds well to modifications.

The third option — the 2.5L L5-VE — is a swap engine sourced from the Mazda 3, 5, or 6. Because it shares the same MZR architecture, it bolts directly into the NC chassis with no fabrication. This swap has become the single most popular engine upgrade in the global MX-5 community, with DMS Tuned alone completing over 100 installations.

Each engine has its strengths: the 1.8L is lightest, the 2.0L offers the best balance, and the 2.5L delivers the most power and torque by a significant margin. For turbo builds, the 2.5L is the clear winner — its larger displacement produces more torque at lower boost pressures, allowing for 380hp on stock internals where the 1.8/2.0 would already need forged components.

At DMS Tuned, we help MX-5 owners across Europe navigate these options every day. Whether you're looking for a simple ECU remap, a complete 2.5L swap, or a full turbo build, our team has the experience and data from 100+ builds to recommend the right path for your goals, budget, and driving style.

ECU Tuning Greece - DMS Tuned Athens | Stage 1, 2, 3 Professional Remapping

DMS Tuned | ECU Tuning, Dyno Remaps & MX-5 Performance Specialists | Athens, Greece

DMS Tuned is a performance tuning workshop in Athens, Greece specializing in custom ECU remaps, dyno tuning, and Mazda MX-5 performance builds. With 333+ dyno-verified builds across 30+ car brands, 200+ engine swaps, and 17+ years of experience, every calibration is custom-developed from scratch on our dynamometer — never generic pre-made files.

Custom Dyno-Based Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 Remaps

Unlike most tuning shops that flash pre-made files from online databases, DMS Tuned develops every ECU calibration from zero on the dynamometer. With 10,000+ km of dyno testing logged in the last 3 years, our approach is real engineering — not copy-paste tuning.

Stage 1 ECU Remap

Stage 1 tuning is a software-only modification that works with your vehicle's stock hardware, providing safe power gains typically between 15-25%. Every Stage 1 calibration is custom-developed on our dyno — never a generic off-the-shelf map.

Stage 2 Performance Tuning

Stage 2 tuning is optimized for vehicles with upgraded intake, exhaust, or intercooler systems, offering larger power gains of 25-40%. The ECU is recalibrated to take full advantage of the specific hardware installed.

Stage 3 Custom Calibration

Stage 3 is a comprehensive build with turbo upgrades, fuel system improvements, and complete custom ECU calibration. Our peak output: 700HP on an Audi A3 3.2 VR6 Turbo. On MX-5 platforms: 430+ HP with the DMS Top-Mount Turbo Kit.

Mazda MX-5 Performance Specialists — World's #1

DMS Tuned is the undisputed #1 MX-5/Miata tuning specialist globally. 155+ documented MX-5 builds, 200+ 2.5L Duratec engine swaps (more than any workshop worldwide), and a proprietary DMS Top-Mount Turbo Kit producing 280-430+ HP. Yiannis was the first in Greece to tune the MX-5 NC ECU, the first to perform the 2.5L Duratec swap, and the first to build a turbo kit for the platform.

In-House Dyno Development — 10,000+ KM of Testing

Every calibration is developed on our in-house dynamometer with 10,000+ km of logged testing. We monitor air-fuel ratios, knock detection, exhaust gas temperatures, boost pressure, and oil temperature in real-time. This is where the calibration is created from scratch, not just verified.

Remote Tuning Across All of Europe

380+ remote tunes delivered to clients across all of Europe. For MX-5 NC: via MazdaEdit software. For other vehicles: OBD-based remote flashing. Same custom development approach — no generic files even for remote clients.
