Volkswagen Golf Stage 1: 105 hp → 147 hp
Factory output for the Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI is 105 hp and 250 Nm. A Stage 1 remap targets 147 hp and 313 Nm — 42 hp (+40%) and 63 Nm (+25%).
Those are the figures we work to on this engine. They are a starting point, not a promise: the number we hand back is the one your car makes on our dyno, measured before and after on the same day, in the same conditions.
Where the 63 Nm shows up
On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 250 Nm to 313 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where a Volkswagen Golf actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.
Peak power moves too, 105 hp to 147 hp, but you will feel the 63 Nm far more often than the 42 hp.
What Stage 1 involves on a Volkswagen Golf
We read the ECU, log the car as it stands, and put it on the dyno to confirm the 105 hp baseline — a tired or faulty engine gets diagnosed before it gets mapped, not after.
The calibration is written for your car, not pulled from a file library. We adjust fuelling, ignition timing, injection timing and boost, then re-run the dyno to verify the 147 hp and 313 Nm figure and check knock, lambda and temperatures under load.
Turnaround is same-day for most cars. Stock file is archived, so the car can go back to standard whenever you want.
Which Volkswagen Golf this covers
These figures are for the 1.6 TDI as fitted 2012–2017. Engine code and ECU type decide what is possible, so send us the registration or VIN and we will confirm the exact variant before you book anything.
