Where the 72 Nm shows up

On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 350 Nm to 422 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where a Skoda Octavia actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.

Peak power moves too, 170 hp to 207 hp, but you will feel the 72 Nm far more often than the 37 hp.
