Where the 77 Nm shows up

On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 317 Nm to 394 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where a Peugeot 607 actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.

Peak power moves too, 133 hp to 176 hp, but you will feel the 77 Nm far more often than the 43 hp.
