Those are the figures we work to on this engine. They are a starting point, not a promise: the number we hand back is the one your car makes on our dyno, measured before and after on the same day, in the same conditions.
Where the 19 Nm shows up
On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 213 Nm to 232 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where a Mazda Mazda 3 actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.
Peak power moves too, 122 hp to 169 hp, but you will feel the 19 Nm far more often than the 47 hp.
