Those are the figures we work to on this engine. They are a starting point, not a promise: the number we hand back is the one your car makes on our dyno, measured before and after on the same day, in the same conditions.

Where the 39 Nm shows up

On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 445 Nm to 484 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where a Mazda Cx 5 actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.

Peak power moves too, 184 hp to 214 hp, but you will feel the 39 Nm far more often than the 30 hp.
