Where the 177 Nm shows up

On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 550 Nm to 727 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where an Audi A8 actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.

Peak power moves too, 313 hp to 355 hp, but you will feel the 177 Nm far more often than the 42 hp.
