Where the 104 Nm shows up

On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 400 Nm to 504 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where an Audi A4 actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.

Peak power moves too, 218 hp to 278 hp, but you will feel the 104 Nm far more often than the 60 hp.
