Where the 77 Nm shows up

On a diesel the useful change is torque, not peak power. Going from 305 Nm to 382 Nm fills in the mid-range, which is where an Alfa Romeo 156 actually spends its time — pulling from 1,800 to 3,000 rpm in a high gear, overtaking without dropping two gears, towing or carrying weight without the engine falling on its face.

Peak power moves too, 150 hp to 193 hp, but you will feel the 77 Nm far more often than the 43 hp.
